Okay, so, I suck and didn't get onto my Yahoo Email last night to start checking it. And I won't be on tonight either, so won't that be a pleasant surprise for me on Thursday?

NOTE TO SELF: do not leave inbox unattended for long periods of time

Ooh, on an up note HMV have a summer sale going until the end of August and they're selling the Buck Rogers boxsets for £22.99 *squee* Must buy! :p

Also, we were debating the Scottish National Anthem voting (as pimped by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] nimoloth) in the office this morning and we've decided that it should be Donald Whaur's Yer Troosers?

I mean, how hilarious would it be to have the words 'Ye cannae get the breeks off a Hieland man' in our national anthem?!

And just for kicks, here are the lyrics! :p

Donald Whaur's Yer Troosers?

1. I've just come down from the Isle of Skye,
I'm no very big an' I'm awfy shy,
And the lassies shout when I go by
"Hey Donald, whaur's yer troosers?"

Chorus:
Let the winds blow high, let the winds blow low
Through the streets in ma kilt I go.
All the lassies shout "Hello,
hey Donald, whaur's yer troosers?"

2. A lassie took me tae a ball
And it was slippery in the hall
And I was feared that I would fall
For I hadnae on ma troosers.

3. I once went down tae London town
And I had some fun on the Underground -
a lady bent down tae pick up half a crown and said
"Donald, where are your trousers?"*

4. The lassies want me, everyone
Just let them catch me if they can -
Ye cannae get the breeks off a Hieland man,
And I don't wear ma troosers.

5. I had a cold and ma nose was raw
I hadnae handkercheif at a'
So I lifted up ma kilt just tae give it a blaw
WHEW, DONALD, WHAUR'S YER TROOSERS?

6. Tae wear the kilt is my delight,
And it's not wrong, I know it's right.
How the folks back home would get a fright
If they saw me wearin' troosers

* The lady's words here should be sung in best posh English accent to
contrast with the Scots in the rest of the song.

Heh, I just love the note at the end about singing in the posh English accent! Hee!

Other ideas to add to the poll were 500 Miles, by the Proclaimers and Bonnie Banks O' Loch Lomond.

Actually, that's what the debate originally started with; what is, officially, the current national anthem? I was convinced it was Scotland the Brave, but Mike and Pat both say we don't have one, hence the voting. Which just sounds wrong to me.

I actually cheated and voted twice. I voted for both Scotland the Brave and Flower of Scotland. Mainly because I actually know the words to the Flower! Also, it's easy to sing. However, Scotland the Brave just sounds...right for our national anthem. Am I making any sense!?

yeah i wouldn't really mine either although if the person who is going to sing it forever is the woman in the music clips then i might change my mind...she is soooooo shrill!

God Save The Queen is the official British anthem, and since we're British, we sing it at British events with British teams like the olympics. And at official cermonies. We are British. And because we are British, Scotland doesn't have an official anthem, we just use whatever.

lmao! oh it so should be Donald! that is too funny!

i thought it was Flower of Scotland, had no idea we didn't actually have one.

i've always loved Bonnie Banks O' Loch Lommond. and Speed Bonnie Boat, that used to put me to sleep when i was a baby apparently.

yay for the Proclaimers!

There isn't an official one, but at the moment it's taken to be Flower of Scotland. It used to be that the football anthem was Scotland The Brave and the rugby team used Flower of Scotland, but now both use Flower.

This isn't an official vote or anything - people do it every year or so. It's a recurring debate. In this case, it's simply to promote an RSNO gig and sell more tickets.

I did actually think that this was an official type thing. Especially after seeing it on Scotland Today. *g*
