You stated that the books aren't like the TV show. Although the main character might be the same, there's the fact that the show has a different dynamic. Booth has never called her 'Tempe' on the show

I think what I was getting at was not so much that they were the same, but that fic writer may have used the books to help them extrapolate what could happen. ie I highly doubt that anyone (ie fic writer) would come up with the name 'Tempe' on their own, so when they saw it in the book they decided that 'Tempe' might be quite a good name for Booth to call Bones when they got involved (I'm assuming that Tempe was in ship fic). So theyt didn't take the books as canon, just used them to help create their own canon.
It still show spectatularly bad taste on behalf of the fic writers tho, for them to not realise that using 'Tempe' was juat all kinds of awesomely bad writing and characterisation. Even in ship fic, I can't see Booth calling her Tempe.
